Adam to Jesus

Luke is the only gospel that carries the family tree of Jesus all the way back to Adam. Where Matthew begins with Abraham and traces a royal, legal line through Solomon, Luke works backwards from Jesus through Joseph and Heli, down a different son of David — Nathan — and keeps going through the patriarchs, past the flood, to “Adam, the son of God.” It is usually read as Mary's biological line, which is why it reaches every human being rather than only the throne of Judah.
