Teaching prompt
Why does scripture call Noah 'blameless in his generation' rather than absolutely blameless?
Reflection
What does it look like to live faithfully when your culture is going a different direction?
Points to Jesus
1 Peter 3:20–21 ties the ark to baptism and to salvation through Christ: as the ark carried Noah's family safely through judgment-waters, Jesus carries His people through the judgment they deserve. Matthew 24:37–39 also makes the days of Noah a picture of Christ's return.
Discussion questions
- Read Genesis 6:5–9. What does the contrast between humanity and Noah tell you about grace?
- Hebrews 11:7 says Noah built the ark 'in reverent fear.' How does fear of God produce action here?
- How does 2 Peter 2:5 describe Noah, and what does it add to the Genesis picture?
