Enoch Bible Study Guide

Enoch

Enoch

Walked with God and 'was not, for God took him'; one of two figures said not to die.

Teaching prompt

What might it mean that Enoch 'walked with God'?

Reflection

How does Enoch's life challenge or comfort how you think about faithfulness over a long life?

Points to Jesus

Hebrews 11:5 names Enoch as one who pleased God by faith — a foretaste of the resurrection life Jesus secures, and Jude 14 frames his prophecy as already anticipating the Lord's return with His holy ones.

Discussion questions

  1. Genesis 5:24 says Enoch 'was not, for God took him.' How does Hebrews 11:5 interpret that line?
  2. Jude 14–15 quotes Enoch as prophesying about the Lord's coming. How does that shape your picture of him?
  3. What practical shape do you think 'walking with God' took in a pre-Flood world?
