Romans 15:12 quotes Isaiah 11:10 — 'The root of Jesse will come, even he who arises to rule the Gentiles' — and reads it directly of Jesus. Revelation 5:5 and 22:16 give Jesus the title 'the Root and the Offspring of David.'
