Teaching prompt
What did it cost Abraham to leave Haran without knowing where he was going?
Reflection
Where is God asking you to take a step of trust before all the answers are clear?
Points to Jesus
Galatians 3:8–16 says the gospel was preached to Abraham in advance: the 'offspring' through whom all nations would be blessed is ultimately Christ. Jesus is the singular Seed in whom Abraham's promise lands, and John 8:56 says Abraham 'rejoiced that he would see my day.'
Discussion questions
- Genesis 12:1–3 lists what God promises Abram. Which promise stretches your faith the most?
- Romans 4 says Abraham was justified by faith before he was circumcised. Why does Paul press that point so hard?
- Genesis 22 is brutal. How does Hebrews 11:17–19 explain what Abraham was thinking?
