Adam Bible Study Guide

Adam

Adam

First man, formed from the dust; given dominion in Eden and a covenant to fill the earth.

Teaching prompt

How does Adam's story set up the whole Bible's tension between gift and grasp?

Reflection

Where in your life are you grasping for what God has already given freely?

Points to Jesus

Romans 5 and 1 Corinthians 15 call Jesus 'the last Adam.' Where the first Adam grasped, the second Adam emptied Himself; where the first brought death, the second brings resurrection life. Luke 3:38 ends Jesus' genealogy with 'son of Adam, son of God,' framing the whole human story as awaiting Christ.

Discussion questions

  1. Genesis 1:26-28: What does it mean that humans are made in God's image?
  2. Genesis 3:6-13: How does the fall happen, and how does each person try to deflect blame?
  3. Romans 5:12-21 / 1 Corinthians 15:22, 45: How does Paul compare Adam and Christ?
