Paul Bible Study Guide

Paul

Paul

Pharisee from Tarsus, persecutor turned apostle to the Gentiles; wrote thirteen New Testament letters.

Teaching prompt

How does Paul's encounter with the risen Jesus on the Damascus road rewrite his theology?

Reflection

What 'gain' would you need to count as loss to know Christ more (Philippians 3:7-8)?

Points to Jesus

Paul stakes everything on the risen Jesus. His letters work out what it means that 'in him the fullness of deity dwells bodily' (Colossians 2:9), that He is the second Adam (Romans 5; 1 Corinthians 15), and that 'while we were still sinners, Christ died for us' (Romans 5:8).

Discussion questions

  1. Acts 9:1-22: What does Jesus say to Saul, and what does He send Ananias to do?
  2. Galatians 1:11-17: How does Paul describe the source of his gospel?
  3. Romans 1:16-17: What does Paul say the gospel is, and how is righteousness received?
