Jeremiah Bible Study Guide

Jeremiah

Jeremiah

Prophet of Judah's final years; promised a new covenant written on the heart.

Teaching prompt

How does Jeremiah 31:31-34 change what 'covenant' can mean?

Reflection

Where does God need to write His law on your heart, not just your calendar?

Points to Jesus

Jeremiah 31:31-34 promises a new covenant in which God writes His law on the heart and remembers sin no more. Luke 22:20 places that exact covenant in Jesus' cup at the Last Supper, and Hebrews 8:8-12 quotes Jeremiah in full to say Jesus is its mediator.

Discussion questions

  1. Jeremiah 1:4-10: What does God tell young Jeremiah about his calling and his fear?
  2. Jeremiah 31:31-34: What four things does God promise in the new covenant?
  3. Hebrews 8:8-12 / Luke 22:20: How do the New Testament writers tie this to Jesus?
