God strips Gideon's army down 'lest Israel boast... saying, My own hand has saved me' (Judges 7:2), and Gideon refuses the crown Israel offers, insisting 'the LORD will rule over you' (Judges 8:23) — a refusal that anticipates Jesus, who likewise withdrew when the crowd wanted to force Him into an earthly kingship (John 6:15), because His reign was never meant to come by human hands.
