Aaron Bible Study Guide

Aaron

Aaron

Older brother of Moses; first high priest of Israel and head of the priestly line.

Teaching prompt

What does the high priesthood of Aaron teach us about how God draws near to His people?

Reflection

Where do you most need a mediator — someone who carries you before God?

Points to Jesus

Aaron is the pattern; Jesus is the fulfillment. Hebrews 4:14-5:10 and 7:23-28 portray Jesus as the greater High Priest — sinless, permanent, and after the order of Melchizedek — who offered Himself once for all instead of repeated animal sacrifices.

Discussion questions

  1. Exodus 28:29: What does Aaron carry on his shoulders and over his heart when he goes in before the LORD?
  2. Leviticus 16: What does the Day of Atonement reveal about sin and substitution?
  3. Hebrews 7:23-28: How does the author contrast Aaron's priesthood with Jesus' priesthood?
